The project of the school in Senya-Beraku came up during a visit to the village by Inès Coca and Joost Heitbrink in november 2007.
Actually we were going on a holiday but it turned out differently.
At the end of our trip we met father Anthony Yorke who is the catholic priest in the village. He showed us round and we visited also the nursery school. The word school is an euphemism, it is just a building consisting out of 8 posts and some corrugated sheets as a roof.
There we found about 70 children and one teacher. The furniture was just some benches for the children, a small table for the teacher and a blackboard. During our trip we had seen a lot of schools but this one was the worst of all. So we decided to do something about it.
After discussing the plans of the school with father Anthony, the place where to build and other details, we decided to offer the money for the construction of the schoolbuilding and also the furniture.
We agreed that the people of the parish do all the labourwork and we will pay for the materials.
We also agreed that the school wil be finished before the next schoolyear starts. This will be August 2008
So there is a lot to organise. The first amount of money has been send already and they have started making blocks of cement.
By the 13th december, 1956 blocks were already made!

This is just the start of our website but it will be updated as soon as possible with more information about the village, plans, photographs etc.
